Yangcheon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) will hold the "14th Yangcheon Marathon" at 8 a.m. on the 12th around the Anyangcheon area. Since its revival in 2023 after 8 years, the Yangcheon Marathon has attracted about 4,600 participants annually and has established itself as a representative family-friendly marathon event.

This year, about 6,000 participants will join, an increase of 1,400 from last year. On the first day of pre-registration held in January, 4,500 spots were filled within half a day, and additional registrations were closed early within 15 minutes, showing great interest.

The event features five categories: ▲Half marathon ▲10km ▲5km ▲10km Couple Run ▲5km Family Run. The half and 10km courses run toward the Han River, while the 5km course follows the Anyangcheon riverside, allowing runners to enjoy the waterfront scenery and spring views. It is designed so that families with young children and citizens unfamiliar with marathons can participate comfortably.

About 6,000 participants will gather at the Sinjeonggyo underpass near the Anyangcheon Haemaru Soccer Field and start in the order of half marathon, 10km, and 5km. From this year, the district will provide all participants with a "timing chip" to enable record verification and online certificate issuance, enhancing the sense of achievement upon completing the marathon.

On the day of the event, various activities will be held, including a fan signing event with Yangcheon Marathon ambassador athlete Lee Bong-ju, running posture coaching by marathon coach Lee Seon-chun, photo booths, congratulatory performances, and experience booths.

The district has been strengthening the symbolism of the "Yangcheon Marathon" and, since last year, has specially produced a "4-piece medal" to commemorate the event through continuous participation, which is given to finishers. Collecting all four pieces by completing the Yangcheon Marathon for four consecutive years until 2027 will form the shape of the Yangcheon-gu map. The district plans to present a medal case to finishers who acquire all four medals at the 16th Yangcheon Marathon in 2027.

Meanwhile, as this is a large-scale event with about 6,000 participants, the district plans to significantly increase safety personnel on the day of the event, concentrating them near the congested turnaround point. They will also deploy dedicated "race patrol" and "bicycle patrol" teams for emergency response and control major bicycle access routes to ensure the marathon proceeds safely.

Mayor Lee Gi-jae said, "I hope everyone will fully demonstrate the skills they have honed and run safely and vigorously in this event," adding, "We will continue to do our best to provide various sports programs that promote the health of residents and help relieve everyday fatigue."
