Strengthening Market Competitiveness by Fostering Traditional Markets
Hapcheon County in Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 8th that it has been finally selected for the 2025 "One Market, One Specialization Development Project" promoted by Gyeongsangnam-do, securing 74 million KRW in provincial funding.
The "One Market, One Specialization Development Project" is a program hosted by Gyeongsangnam-do aimed at fostering unique traditional markets and strengthening market competitiveness by utilizing local resources, targeting traditional markets, shopping districts, and alley-type shopping areas.
In this round of applications, four cities/counties and five markets were selected, with Hapcheon County being the only county to have Hapcheon Wanghu Market chosen as a final recipient.
This project is part of the 8th popularly elected administration's pledge to "Support the Revitalization of Hapcheon Wanghu Market and Shopping District." The project focuses on installing promotional lighting in the central passageway and alley shop signs of Hapcheon Wanghu Market, as well as replacing outdated awning facilities to create a bright and pleasant shopping environment even during the day. A total of 148 million KRW will be invested in the project.
Han Hosang, Head of the Job and Economy Division, stated, "Due to changes in modern consumption patterns and the ongoing economic downturn, the inflow of customers to traditional markets has been steadily decreasing," adding, "Through this project, we will do our best to ensure that Hapcheon Wanghu Market is transformed into a bright and pleasant environment, contributing to an increase in visitors and sales, and ultimately revitalizing traditional markets."
