Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) held a tree-planting event in relay format on the afternoon of April 7th at three representative locations in Mapo-gu: ▲Red Road R4 ▲Yonggang Naru Small Park ▲Sangam Wildflower Garden in celebration of Arbor Day.
About 350 people, including Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo-gu and local residents, participated in the event, planting a total of 3,520 trees such as pine trees, crape myrtles, and cornelian cherries.
As wildfires have recently occurred across the country, drawing renewed attention to the importance of forest protection, this Arbor Day tree-planting event in Mapo-gu served as more than just a planting activity; it became an opportunity to reflect on the value of green spaces amid the climate crisis and wildfire risks.
The event began at each location with a commemorative speech by the Mayor of Mapo-gu and a photo session with guests, followed by an explanation of tree-planting techniques by the head of the Park and Greenery Division, and proceeded with planting and watering.
Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo-gu stated, “Planting trees is planting the future,” and added, “I sincerely thank everyone who participated in this meaningful event with a heart that cares for the future and the environment.”
Mapo-gu is making efforts to expand green spaces within the city, including Dohwa-dong Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter Park, Tojeong Rest Area, Tojeong Nadeulmok Loess Road, and Barefoot Loess Road in Bu-eong Neighborhood Park.
Additionally, for forest protection, on March 24th, about 200 employees and residents visited Maebongsan, Seongmisan, and Wausan mountains in sequence to distribute wildfire prevention promotional materials, and the Wildfire Prevention Countermeasures Headquarters is operating until May 15th, the end of the spring wildfire caution period.
