Donation of Proceeds to Support Gyeongbuk Wildfire Victims

Kimcheon Sudosan Winery, one of the 'Visiting Breweries' designated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, was selected for the Brewery Cultural and Artistic Space Revitalization Support Project and held a two-day complex cultural event starting from the 4th.

'Korea's Amarone' Kimcheon Sudosan Wine, Fusion of Traditional Liquor and Culture & Arts...A New Model for the Local Economy Expected “We harvest wild mountain grapes grown in a clean area at an altitude of 500 meters, waiting until the first frost, and then make wine by aging it in oak barrels for 3 to 10 years,” he said. “This method is similar to the Italian representative wine ‘Amarone’ and follows the appassimento technique, earning it the reputation as the ‘Korean Amarone.’”

This event was organized to transform the brewery from a simple alcohol production site into a space where culture and art coexist. More than 60 participants, including wine enthusiasts from the metropolitan area, sommeliers, cultural artists, and local residents, enjoyed a variety of programs such as traditional liquor tasting and brewing experiences, as well as traditional musical instrument performances.

In particular, all proceeds from the wine auction held during the event were donated to support victims of wildfires in the Gyeongbuk region, and a campaign under the theme 'Our Forests' was also conducted to promote wildfire prevention and disaster recovery, adding further significance to the occasion.

Baek Seunghyun, CEO of Sudosan Winery, explained, "We harvest wild grapes grown in a pristine area at an altitude of 500 meters, waiting until the first frost, and then age the wine in oak barrels for 3 to 10 years. This method is similar to the Italian representative wine 'Amarone' using the appassimento technique, which is why our wine is regarded as the 'Korean Amarone.'"

In fact, Sudosan Winery was recognized as Korea's best wine by winning the Presidential Award with 'Crate Medium Dry' in 2023, and currently offers a variety of wines made not only from wild grapes but also from local specialties of Kimcheon such as grapes and plums. Major products include Crate Dry, Sweet, Ros?, White, and Plum Wine.

Jung Hanyeol, director of the Kimcheon Agricultural Technology Center, said, "We expect this event to serve as a catalyst for traditional liquor culture to develop into a sustainable cultural content and to establish itself as a new tourism model that contributes to attracting tourists and revitalizing the local economy."
