Statement Released:
"Stability and Unity for the People Over Constitutional Amendment"
Yang Bunam, Member of the National Assembly.
Yang Bunam, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (representing Gwangju Seo-gu-eul and chairman of the Gwangju City Party Committee), stated on the 7th, "What is needed now is not constitutional amendment, but the restoration of the livelihoods that have collapsed."
On this day, Yang released a statement saying, "Since the 1987 constitutional system, the Republic of Korea has upheld democracy and constitutional order," and pointed out, "Under this constitutional system, except for former President Yoon Sukyeol, no president has ever staged a praetorian coup."
He particularly emphasized, "Martial law (praetorian coup) is not due to a flaw in the constitutional system. It is a personal issue of Yoon Sukyeol, who abandoned his duty and responsibility to protect the constitution."
He continued, "Now is not the time for constitutional amendment. First, we must swiftly resolve the rebellion situation, conduct the presidential election in a stable manner, and focus all our efforts on restoring the livelihoods that have collapsed."
Yang further stressed, "What we need to do now is not to change the constitution, but to establish and uphold the spirit of the constitution," and emphasized, "What the Republic of Korea truly needs is responsible politics, stability, and unity for the people."
