On the 8th, Seoul City announced that it signed a business agreement for the 'Safe Housing Companion Public-Private Partnership Project' together with Seoul Guarantee Insurance and Habitat for Humanity Korea at the Seosomun 2 Office Building of Seoul City Hall the previous day. The signing ceremony was attended by Choi Jin-seok, Director of the Housing Office of Seoul City, Shim Seong-bo, Chief Executive Officer of Seoul Guarantee Insurance, and Lee Gwang-hoe, Secretary General of Habitat for Humanity Korea.

The Safe Housing Companion Public-Private Partnership Project is a program in which the city collaborates with companies and non-profit organizations engaged in social contribution activities to support housing environment improvement construction for vulnerable housing groups. The support targets are vulnerable households with self-occupied homes whose income is below 100% of the median income (children, elderly, disabled), providing support ranging from housing performance improvements such as insulation and waterproofing to interior environment work such as wallpaper and flooring replacement.

Seoul Guarantee Insurance will sponsor 150 million KRW for the project and support housing environment improvements for 10 households selected by the city. Habitat for Humanity Korea will oversee customized construction for each household. Following last year, Seoul Guarantee Insurance will continue to sponsor the project this year, and Habitat for Humanity Korea plans to provide tailored construction support based on on-site measurements for the supported households.

This year, with sponsorship from seven companies including Seoul Guarantee Insurance?the highest number ever?the project will carry out housing environment improvement construction for a total of 77 vulnerable households living in poor conditions such as semi-basement houses.

Starting with a pilot project in the second half of 2022 in cooperation with Daewoo Construction for nine semi-basement households, the city supported housing environment improvement construction for 48 households in 2023 (with sponsorship from three companies including the Korea Housing Builders Association) and 20 households in 2024 (with sponsorship from three companies including Seoul Guarantee Insurance).

Choi Jin-seok, Director of the Housing Office of Seoul City, said, "We are grateful to the institutions that actively participated in the Safe Housing Companion program. We expect to support a more comfortable and healthy living environment for more vulnerable housing groups this year." He added, "Seoul City will continue to expand the safety net for vulnerable housing groups by collaborating with various companies."
