Jeong Cheolwon, the governor of Damyang County in Jeollanam-do, conducted his first on-site inspection on the weekend after taking office, checking wildfire prevention and response readiness in wildfire-prone areas ahead of Cheongmyeong and Hansik.
According to the county on the 7th, Governor Jeong visited the wildfire prevention and suppression team standby post on the 5th, encouraged the team members, and patrolled wildfire-prone areas to inspect prevention and response measures. This action was taken in response to the recent occurrence of large-scale wildfires simultaneously across the country, as well as the increased frequency of wildfires due to dry weather and strong winds.
He also designated department heads as administrative support officers for each town and township, instructing them to intensively monitor forest-adjacent areas and wildfire-prone regions, and to crack down on illegal burning of agricultural by-products and household waste, putting all efforts into wildfire prevention.
Governor Jeong emphasized, "From now on, we will establish a wildfire monitoring system together with village heads who are well-acquainted with local circumstances, reduce blind spots for wildfires, and strictly control burning activities to make Damyang County free of wildfires."
Meanwhile, the county has designated the period until the 15th as the "Special Countermeasure Period for Large-Scale Wildfires" and has significantly strengthened its monitoring system. All public officials have been assigned specific areas to patrol for burning activities, and administrative efforts are being focused on wildfire prevention by directly visiting major tourist sites, village halls, and senior centers for publicity.
