Kim Tae-heum, Governor of South Chungcheong Province, reaffirmed his commitment to establishing a general hospital in Naepo, which was canceled last year, stating on the 7th, "We will build a proper hospital."
Governor Kim made this announcement at the 53rd Health Day commemorative event held at Lotte Resort Sabi Hall in Buyeo, adding, "Discussions with one of the nation's top five hospitals have made significant progress."
The Naepo General Hospital was initially planned as a regional hub hospital with over 500 beds, including an emergency medical center and a critical cardiovascular center, after Myongji Medical Foundation signed a sales contract in May 2022 with Chungnam Development Corporation for a 34,214-square-meter medical facility site in Naepo New Town.
However, the establishment was halted when Myongji Foundation failed to pay the 5.3 billion won interim payment?part of the total 35.6 billion won land price?by November 11, more than six months past the deadline, prompting the development corporation to notify contract termination.
An official from the province stated at the time, "Myongji Medical Foundation expressed that it was difficult to proceed with the project due to conflicts with the medical association."
Subsequently, the province shifted its approach, deciding to directly purchase the land, build the hospital, and then entrust management to a major hospital.
To this end, the province is set to seek approval for the public property management plan for the land purchase at the upcoming special session starting on the 8th.
Meanwhile, regarding the establishment of a dental research institute, Governor Kim stated, "Chungnam has taken the lead in establishing a legal basis for its creation, and as it is a gubernatorial pledge, it will definitely be located in Cheonan," adding, "We will strive to improve the healthcare infrastructure directly connected to residents' lives."
