Hong Seongpyo, the chair of the Asan City Council in Chungnam, received a unanimous 30-day suspension from attendance after displaying drunken misconduct at his alma mater's graduation ceremony.

The Asan City Council held its 256th extraordinary session on the 7th and confirmed the disciplinary action against Chair Hong.

Sixteen members, excluding Chair Hong, participated in the vote, and the measure passed unanimously with 16 votes in favor.

With the disciplinary action confirmed, the 257th extraordinary session, which opens on the 28th, will be presided over by Vice Chair Maeng Uiseok.

Previously, on January 10, Chair Hong attended his alma mater's graduation ceremony while intoxicated and caused a scene, including arguing with parents.

On the 14th, he submitted a resignation letter to the council's secretariat, stating, "I take full responsibility." However, the resignation motion was rejected with 7 votes in favor and 9 against.

Immediately after the rejection, Chair Hong submitted his withdrawal from the Democratic Party to the Chungnam Provincial Party, and the party expelled him in accordance with its regulations regarding members who leave during disciplinary proceedings.
