The Gwangju Dong-gu District Council (Chairperson Moon Sunhwa) announced on the 7th that it held a forum to revitalize the commercial district around the National Asia Culture Center.


The forum, held in the small conference room on the 3rd floor of the Dong-gu District Council building that afternoon, was attended by Kim Anna, CEO of Abaland; Park Jeongui, President of the Dongmyeong-dong Residents' Self-Governing Committee; Seo Donggyun, President of the Dong-gu Tourism Accommodation Alliance; Yang Eunyoung, former Team Leader of the Seonam-dong Urban Regeneration Field Support Center; and department heads from the Culture, Arts and Sports Division, Sustainable Tourism Division, Employment and Economy Division, and Urban Space Planning Division of the Dong-gu Office.


This forum was presided over by Kim Hyunsuk, Chair of the Council Operations Committee. The purpose of the forum was to diagnose the current status of the commercial district around the National Asia Culture Center and to seek ways to revitalize the original downtown commercial area.


The presentations at the forum were delivered by Lee Seungkwon, Professor Emeritus at Chosun University, and Lee Yeo-jin, Director of the Dong-gu Cultural Tourism Foundation. Key topics discussed included: ▲Creating a pedestrian-friendly environment ▲Establishing a cultural theme zone ▲Introducing a smart parking system ▲Developing a citizen participation-based operational model ▲Open utilization of ACC spaces ▲Strengthening nighttime content, among others.


Kim Hyunsuk stated, "Through this forum, I hope that practical measures will be derived for the ACC to become the center of a cultural ecosystem that breathes together with the surrounding commercial districts and revitalizes the local economy."
