Hong Joon-pyo, the mayor of Daegu who is preparing to run for president, announced that he plans to hold his retirement ceremony on the 11th.
At the executive meeting held on the morning of the 7th, Mayor Hong said this and asked that major ongoing projects in Daegu, such as the construction of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport, be well managed with the deputy mayor of administration taking the lead. He especially stated, "I will do my best to ensure an opportunity to personally oversee key ongoing projects," indicating his intention to address regional issues if elected president.
Earlier, in a post on his Facebook page the previous day, Mayor Hong expressed his intention to resign from his mayoral position during the week, saying, "On Tuesday, I will visit to say farewell, on Thursday, I will greet the city council for my retirement, and on Friday, I plan to thank the employees of Daegu City Hall."
It is known that Mayor Hong plans to make a separate presidential candidacy announcement on the 14th in Yeouido, Seoul.
