Yeongju to Hold 'Yeongju Inseong Academy' on the 10th After Delay Due to Wildfire

Yeongju Citizens' Hall Launches with Lecture by Professor Seo Kyungduk

Yeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province will kick off this year's 'Yeongju Character Academy,' which was postponed due to a large-scale wildfire, with a lecture by Korean PR expert Seo Kyungduk at 2 p.m. on the 10th at the Yeongju Citizens' Hall. The event was originally scheduled for the 27th of last month but was delayed by two weeks due to concerns over the spread of nearby wildfires.

Professor Seo Kyungduk is known for being the first in Korea to personally fund an advertisement for 'Dokdo' in The New York Times and for showcasing promotional videos about Korean history and culture, such as Korean food and Hangeul, on major billboards in Times Square, New York, and Piccadilly Circus, London. He has also led efforts to promote Korean culture by donating Korean-language guides to major museums and art galleries worldwide.

In this lecture, under the theme 'Why is Promoting Korean Culture and History Important?', Professor Seo will emphasize the necessity of sharing Korean culture and history with the world and the importance of civic consciousness in the global era, drawing on his own challenges and experiences.

Especially noteworthy is the pre-event performance, which will be presented for the first time this year: a group drum and traditional performance by the Yeongju City Serotonin Art Troupe, officially invited to the '2025 Edinburgh Fringe Festival Korean Season.' The lecture is open to all citizens on a first-come, first-served basis, with no separate registration required.

Kim Hojung, Director of Seonbi Talent Development, stated, "We extend our deepest condolences to those affected by the sudden wildfire," and added, "This lecture will be held in a calm atmosphere in consideration of the current wildfire disaster, and we hope many citizens will join this meaningful event to newly recognize the value of Korean culture and history."

The Yeongju Character Academy is a flagship character education program initiated by Yeongju City since 2023, providing high-quality educational opportunities to citizens every year. This year, following Professor Seo Kyungduk's lecture, a series of insightful talks will be given by prominent figures in various fields, including comedian Lee Seungyoon, known for 'Nature Man' (April 24), celebrity couple Jung Eunpyo and Kim Hayan (May 22), a talk concert with conductor Kim Hyuncheol (June 13), psychologist Dr. Park Sangmi (June 19), historian Professor Shin Byungjoo (July 24), broadcaster Tyler Rasch (August 26), and profiler Kwon Ilyong (September 25).
