"Trump Out" Protests Across the US, The Video He Posted the Next Day...

Golf in Florida After Reciprocal Tariff Announcement

Across the United States, progressive-led protests opposing President Donald Trump's administration took place, but Trump himself continued to enjoy golf, displaying a sense of ease.

Yonhap News reported on the 7th that Trump posted a video of himself playing golf on Truth Social on the 6th (local time). In the 7-second video, he hits a tee shot with a driver amid strong winds. Immediately after announcing reciprocal tariffs, he headed straight to a golf course in Florida, facing criticism, and this time he boldly posted the golf video on social media (SNS) himself.

The exact time the video was filmed has not been confirmed. However, the White House informed the press corps on the 5th that Trump "won the second-round matchup of the Senior Club Championship held today in Jupiter, Florida. Tomorrow, he advances to the championship round."

Trump is known as a golf enthusiast who frequently enjoys rounds during his leisure time. On the 3rd, the day after announcing high reciprocal tariffs on global trading partners, he headed to Florida, where his residence and resort are located.

Despite the New York stock market plunging repeatedly due to the reciprocal tariff announcement, Trump participated in the LIV Tournament held at Trump National Doral Golf Club, a family-owned club hosting the LIV Miami golf event supported by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund.

President Trump participated in the pro-am of this tournament in 2022 and visited the venue last year, maintaining a friendly relationship with LIV Golf. Notably, this tournament has been held at Trump-owned golf courses for four consecutive years. However, Trump was not a sitting president during his previous two visits.

Following the Trump administration's reciprocal tariff announcement on the 2nd, the market capitalization lost in the New York stock market over two days, the 3rd and 4th, reached $6.6 trillion (approximately 9652 trillion won).

However, Peter Navarro, White House advisor and architect of the 'Trump tariffs,' dismissed concerns about price increases, stating that the tariff burden would fall on foreign companies. The Wall Street Journal analyzed that the cost increases from reciprocal tariffs would inevitably be passed on to American consumers, leading to price hikes. The Democratic Party pointed out that the tariffs mainly hurt ordinary people, while the tax cut benefits ultimately go to the wealthy.

In response, over 600,000 citizens (organizers' estimate) poured into the streets nationwide in protests against unilateral governance. The nationwide protest was titled ‘Hands Off,’ meaning ‘hands off.’ Tens of thousands gathered around the Washington Monument, a symbol of Washington DC located about 1.6 km from the White House, to protest and march. President Trump, who spent the weekend playing golf in Florida, where his home is located, did not hear the voices of the citizens gathered near the White House that day.

Meanwhile, Trump has continued to enjoy golf since taking office. According to an internet media outlet called ‘Trump Golf Track,’ which counts the number of Trump’s golf rounds, he played golf 19 times over 72 days since his inauguration in January this year?almost twice a week.
