KT announced that the detection accuracy of its AI-based voice phishing detection service, launched on January 22, reached 90.3% after analyzing two months of operational data.

Since the service launch, KT analyzed 1,528 voice phishing calls detected with 'Caution' and 'Danger' levels. Notably, 392 cases (25%) were confirmed as either on the National Police Agency's voice phishing blacklist or impersonation cases of prosecutors and police, proving that the alert function is effective in preventing actual damage.

Based on the government's announced average damage amount per voice phishing case in 2024 of approximately 41 million KRW, KT estimated that the service prevented about 16 billion KRW in damages. However, some false positives occurred in normal calls related to billing or payment collection. KT plans to further improve accuracy in the first half of the year by enhancing the AI engine and updating the whitelist to minimize such errors.

Building on these achievements, KT will collaborate with K-Bank starting this April to apply AI-based real-time voice phishing detection technology for the first time in the financial sector. This will enable direct financial fraud responses such as withdrawal suspension. The service will be linked with K-Bank’s financial fraud prevention system, providing real-time detection information to K-Bank when customers receive suspected voice phishing calls.

Lee Byung-moo, Head of KT AX Innovation Support Division (Senior Executive Vice President), stated, “It is very encouraging that KT’s AI technology is contributing to actual voice phishing prevention,” and added, “We hope more citizens will proactively prevent damage through the free ‘WhoWho’ app, which is available to everyone regardless of telecom provider.”
