JWJW Choongwae Pharmaceutical announced on the 7th that it has selected Baek Soon-gu, Vice President of Yonsei University Wonju College of Medicine and Director of Wonju Yonsei Medical Center, as the recipient of the 33rd JW Choongwae Philanthropy Award.
The JW Choongwae Philanthropy Award, jointly established by JW Choongwae Pharmaceutical and the Korean Hospital Association, is now in its 33rd year and aims to recognize medical professionals who embody the spirit of philanthropy in society.
Vice President Baek Soon-gu has consistently dedicated himself to improving public health and advancing regional medical services. Especially during crisis situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic, he demonstrated outstanding leadership, contributing to minimizing gaps in regional healthcare. At the early stages of COVID-19 vaccination, he played a crucial role in increasing vaccination rates by becoming the first person to be vaccinated within the hospital to alleviate medical staff’s concerns and build trust.
He has also made various efforts to strengthen medical publicness. In 2019, he brought the Sunflower Center to protect and support victims of sexual violence, domestic violence, and child abuse. Since then, he has led initiatives to protect victims’ rights, provide violence prevention education, and raise awareness, thereby promoting the value of public healthcare in the local community.
Furthermore, in 2021, he secured the Rare Disease Gangwon Regional Hub Center (currently the Gangwon Regional Rare Disease Specialized Institution), providing tangible medical benefits to marginalized groups and patients suffering from rare diseases. Through this, he significantly contributed to strengthening the public nature of healthcare by establishing a foundation for rare disease patients to receive more specialized treatment.
Alongside the JW Choongwae Philanthropy Award, the JW Choongwae Volunteer Award was given to Ahn Hee-bae, Director and Hospital Director of Dong-A University Medical Center, and Kang Jong-dae, Manager of the Jesus Hospital Foundation.
Meanwhile, the award ceremony will be held on the 11th at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas.
