"Dialogue to Resolve Conflicts and Efforts for National Unity"
Most Respondents Cite as Top Task After Impeachment
Eight out of ten people expressed their willingness to accept the Constitutional Court's impeachment ruling. Efforts to resolve social conflicts and promote national unity, political system reforms such as restructuring the presidential system, were identified as the most important social tasks following the impeachment verdict.
According to a public opinion poll released on the 7th by Realmeter (commissioned by Energy Economy, conducted from the 2nd to the 4th nationwide targeting 1,516 voters aged 18 and over, using 100% wireless automated response, with a sampling error of ±2.5 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and a response rate of 6.6%), 76.9% of respondents expressed their willingness to accept the Constitutional Court's impeachment ruling. Those who stated they would not accept it accounted for 17.4%.
The trend in public opinion before and after the impeachment ruling was similar. In the survey conducted on the 2nd and 3rd (1,013 respondents) before the ruling, 79.7% responded that they would accept it, while 12.9% said they would not. In the survey on the 4th (503 respondents), after the impeachment was upheld, 71.2% expressed acceptance, and 26.5% expressed non-acceptance.
Regarding the tasks following the impeachment trial, 25.8% of respondents chose "dialogue to resolve social conflicts and efforts for national unity." Next, 24.6% selected "political reforms such as restructuring the presidential system and adjusting the powers of the National Assembly." "Strengthening cooperation between the ruling and opposition parties to normalize government operations" was chosen by 22.0%. "Acknowledgment of responsibility by former President Yoon and Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, for the December 12 emergency martial law and impeachment incident" was selected by 17.6%.
Regarding party support, the Democratic Party's support dropped by 2.5 percentage points from the previous week to 44.8%. The People Power Party fell by 0.4 percentage points to 35.7%. As a result, although the gap in support between the two major parties narrowed compared to the previous week, the Democratic Party still led by 9.1 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error. The Innovation Party rose by 1.5 percentage points to 5.2%, and the Reform Party increased by 1.0 percentage point to 3.3%.
