Expansion of the 'Separate Collection Day System' Begins This Month
Including Transparent PET Bottles, Waste Vinyl, and Small Home Appliances
Dongjak-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 7th that it will expand the operation of the ‘separate collection day system’ for transparent PET bottles and waste vinyl, which is being implemented for detached houses and commercial buildings in the district, starting this month.
This system was introduced at the end of 2021 to solve the problem of mixed waste disposal in areas without separate collection bins, and most autonomous districts operate it once a week. The district has expanded the Thursday collection items to be disposed of on Sundays as well to alleviate residents' inconvenience.
Accordingly, in multi-family and multi-unit houses, small restaurants, and other places, transparent (colorless) PET bottles, waste vinyl, small waste home appliances, and batteries can be placed in front of the door not only every Thursday but also on Sundays from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
To establish the system, the district will hold a ‘Correct Separate Collection Practice Certification Shot Event’ this month. The first 200 residents who submit a certification photo of separate collection along with a pledge statement will receive ten 10ℓ volume-based waste bags each on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition, promotion of 24-hour separate collection convenience facilities such as Nephron and Recycling Stations will be conducted simultaneously.
Mayor Park Il-ha said, “We are expanding the separate collection day system to efficiently process recyclable waste while enhancing residents’ convenience. We will listen to the voices of residents and continue to promote practical administrative services.”
