On the 7th at 2 p.m., Seongnam City held a groundbreaking ceremony for the ‘Seongnam City Museum Exhibition Building Construction’ attended by about 150 people including Sin Sang-jin, Mayor of Seongnam, members of the National Assembly, provincial and city council members, and local residents.
The museum exhibition building will be constructed next to the Experience Building (basement 1 floor to ground 4 floors, total floor area 2,933㎡), which was built and opened earlier.
The construction of the exhibition building will involve a project cost of 47.6 billion KRW (including 2.8 billion KRW in national and provincial funds, excluding land costs), and it will be built on a site area of 1,769㎡ with three basement floors to two above-ground floors, totaling 6,600㎡ in floor area.
The exhibition building will house three permanent exhibition rooms, a special exhibition room, storage, a caf?, and a souvenir shop.

The city plans to focus on creating a space that reflects Seongnam’s past, present, and future, as well as the identity of Seongnam as a special city of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
The Seongnam City Museum consists of two buildings: the new exhibition building and the Experience Building, which opened in August 2023.
The Experience Building was constructed by the park development project operator in December 2022 and transferred ownership to Seongnam City free of charge.
It operates a digital children’s experience room linked to 4th Industrial Revolution technologies, an open experience room, and a reference room where materials related to Seongnam, technology, city, and records can be accessed. Over the past 1 year and 7 months, 176,143 citizens have visited.
The autonomous driving experience room also opened on this day (the 7th), and from April 22, it will provide opportunities for teenagers and adults to experience autonomous vehicle driving and coding through exhibits.
Sin Sang-jin, Mayor of Seongnam, said, “The direction is to build a living, breathing future-oriented museum,” adding, “It will be a symbolic space connecting Seongnam’s past and future, as well as a cultural complex space integrating experience and education using cutting-edge technology.”
