Kwon Youngse and Kwon Seongdong to Serve Until Election Day
The People Power Party is scheduled to launch an election management committee for the early presidential election on the 7th. The current leadership, including Emergency Response Committee Chair Kwon Young-se and Floor Leader Kwon Seong-dong, will remain in office until the presidential election.
On the 6th, Seo Ji-young, the party's floor spokesperson, told reporters after a party meeting at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, "Tomorrow morning (the 7th), the Emergency Response Committee will form and approve the election management committee to officially launch it." She added, "Discussions regarding the primary schedule and the selection of the presidential candidate will take place after the election management committee is fully established."
The current leadership structure will continue. Chair Kwon Young-se and Floor Leader Kwon Seong-dong emphasized, "Our mission is to carry out the presidential election schedule and secure victory to protect the Republic of Korea." Seo Ji-young conveyed that after gathering opinions from party members, there was a consensus that the current leadership would fulfill their duties through the election schedule.
Although an official stance on the constitutional amendment proposed by National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik has not yet been decided, Seo mentioned, "There is a possibility that the leadership will release an official position at tomorrow’s Emergency Response Committee meeting."
Additionally, the issues of expelling former President Yoon Seok-yeol or disciplining lawmakers who supported impeachment were not discussed at the party meeting. Seo stated regarding former President Yoon’s message, "The love for the people as president is the same whether one is incumbent or former," expressing understanding of his intent.
