Fire at Daedeok Industrial Complex Waste Disposal Facility
32 Workers Evacuated, No Casualties Reported
Complete Extinguishment Delayed Due to Industrial Waste Storage
A fire broke out around 1:28 PM on the 6th at a waste disposal facility within the Daedeok Industrial Complex in Munpyeong-dong, Daedeok-gu, Daejeon.
The fire department issued a Level 1 response at 1:35 PM, dispatching all personnel from the local fire station. The initial suppression was successful at 2:55 PM, 1 hour and 27 minutes later. A total of 133 firefighters and 37 fire trucks were deployed to extinguish the fire. The fire department lifted the Level 1 response at 3:05 PM and continues to manage the remaining embers.
There were no casualties from the fire, but 32 workers near the scene evacuated. Fortunately, the fire did not spread to nearby manufacturing facilities such as the Hankook Tire Daejeon Plant.
A fire official stated, "Since industrial waste and hazardous materials were stored at the waste disposal site, it will take time to fully extinguish the fire," adding, "So far, there have been no injuries."
The police and fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause and extent of the damage after the fire is completely extinguished.
