Reciprocal Tariffs Imposed on the Heard and McDonald Islands
Heated Debate and Meme Spread on Social Media
U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed reciprocal tariffs even on the remote island of the Heard and McDonald Islands near Antarctica, and memes criticizing or mocking this have been spreading online.
On the 5th (local time), according to the American daily The New York Times (NYT), a user on social media platform X posted a photo of President Trump and Vice President JD Vance sitting in the White House office with a penguin, waving their hands dismissively. The post included a mocking caption saying, "The penguin is wearing a suit, but it couldn't avoid tariffs on the Heard and McDonald Islands. Maybe because it didn't say thank you?"
This post criticizes the U.S. for imposing reciprocal tariffs on the Heard and McDonald Islands. It appears to mock the incident in February when Vice President Vance criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his White House visit for not showing gratitude.
