Public opinion in the United States is rapidly shifting amid concerns that President Donald Trump's tariff policies could exacerbate economic turmoil, such as soaring prices.
According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on the 4th (local time), a poll conducted over six days starting from the 27th of last month surveyed 1,500 American voters, revealing that 54% of respondents opposed President Trump's tariff policies.
In January, support for the tariff policies (48%) was higher than opposition (46%), but in this survey, support dropped to 42%.
Notably, three-quarters of respondents expressed concern about rising grocery prices due to tariff issues.
Negative views on President Trump's overall economic policies have also surpassed positive views.
Opposition to Trump's economic policies stood at 52%, higher than the 44% who supported them. This marks a shift from last October, just before the presidential election, when 40% opposed his economic policies and 50% supported them.
However, despite dissatisfaction with economic policies, there appears to be little change in support for President Trump himself.
Among voters who cast their ballots for President Trump in last year's election, 93% still maintain their support. Overall, 46% of all voters positively evaluated President Trump's job performance.
WSJ explained that this level is not significantly different from that of January, before President Trump took office.
