Police Determine Low Likelihood of Crime
Release Suspect with Warning and Hand Over to Family
A man in his 40s, angry about the impeachment of former President Yoon Seok-yeol, was caught after calling the police and threatening to destroy the Democratic Party headquarters and the Election Commission.
According to the Gimpo Police Station in Gyeonggi Province on the 4th, around noon that day, a call was made to 112 saying, "I will destroy both the Democratic Party headquarters and the Election Commission."
The police tracked the caller, a man in his 40s identified as Mr. A, using mobile phone location information (GPS) on a street in Yangchon-eup, Gimpo City. Mr. A was reportedly angry about the Constitutional Court's decision to accept President Yoon's impeachment and made threatening remarks.
After an on-site investigation, the police judged that the likelihood of Mr. A actually committing the crime was low, so they issued a warning and handed him over to his family.
A police official explained, "We gave Mr. A a stern warning and then released him, determining that there was no need to file criminal charges."
