A fine of up to 2 million won for non-compliance with compost maturity standards
Free testing available at the Agricultural Technology Center
Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province is offering free year-round testing for the maturity of livestock manure compost to reduce the economic burden on livestock farmers and promote eco-friendly agricultural practices.
The Gumi Agricultural Technology Center announced that, according to the "Act on the Management and Use of Livestock Manure," only compost with a late maturity or fully matured grade must be used when spreading livestock manure on farmland. Failure to comply may result in a fine of up to 2 million won.
Accordingly, the Agricultural Technology Center has decided to fully cover the testing fees so that livestock farmers can comply with the maturity standards. Farmers who wish to have their compost tested can collect a 500g sample and visit the Eco-friendly Livestock Management Office at the Agricultural Technology Center.
Kim Younghyeok, Director of the Gumi Agricultural Technology Center, said, "Compost maturity testing is an essential procedure for sustainable livestock farming and environmental protection," and added, "We will strengthen administrative support to encourage more farmers to actively participate."
Gumi City also plans to expand various technical support and educational programs to promote eco-friendly livestock farming and create a pleasant rural environment in the future.
