Gwangju City is set to officially launch the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) industry, which is emerging as a key player in future new industries and the center of the new transportation revolution.

On the afternoon of the 4th, Gwangju City held the "2025 Advanced Air Mobility Industry Development Strategy Forum" at the Kimdaejung Convention Center, where it signed a "Business Agreement for the Development of the Advanced Air Mobility Industry" with nine companies and institutions, including AAM enterprises, universities, testing and certification agencies, and business support organizations.

Participants in the agreement included Gwangju City, Vessel Aerospace Co., Ltd., Top Mobility Co., Ltd., The Air Co., Ltd., GF Tech Co., Ltd., Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology Future Space and Aerospace Research Center, Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL), Gwangju Technopark Foundation, and Gwangju Future Vehicle Mobility Promotion Institute, totaling nine companies and organizations.

According to the agreement, these companies and organizations will pursue systematic and efficient collaborative projects not only in technology development for the advanced air mobility sector but also in testing, evaluation, demonstration, and the establishment of mass production systems. In particular, they agreed to join forces in building an advanced air mobility industry cluster, including the development of specialized complexes and the cultivation of professional talent.

Mayor Kang Gijung stated, "With Gwangju's strengths in artificial intelligence (AI), future vehicles, and the advanced air mobility industry converging, we expect Gwangju's economy to expand into high value-added future industries. The city will continue to lay the foundation for the growth of the advanced air mobility industry, in addition to AI and the future vehicle sector."

The city is actively promoting the creation of a leading advanced air mobility city by utilizing the UAM (Urban Air Mobility) Demonstration and Promotion Center, completed last year, as a hub to cluster related companies and institutions, support core technology development, expand infrastructure, strengthen the capabilities of component companies, and diversify (transform) industries.

Following the signing ceremony, the "Advanced Air Mobility Industry Development Strategy Forum" was also held. Co-hosted by Gwangju City and Councilor Jo Incheol, and organized by Gwangju Technopark, the forum was attended by over 200 experts and stakeholders from industry, academia, research, and government sectors.

At the forum, Kim Myunghyun, head of the Air Mobility Research Team at the Korea Transport Institute, introduced "The Role of the Urban Air Mobility Act," covering new definitions of urban air mobility, pilot operation zones, and the establishment of implementation foundations. In addition, Ko Donghee, deputy director of the IAM Business Division at Korea Airports Corporation, gave a keynote presentation on "Systematic Management and Step-by-Step Preparation Based on New Mobility Systems."

Jung Chanyoung, CEO of Top Mobility Co., Ltd., presented "Plans for Commercializing the First Domestic Electric Airplane and Collaboration Measures for Building Gwangju's Advanced Air Mobility Industry Ecosystem," while Kim Gwangjin, head of the Mobility Industry Center at Gwangju Technopark, announced "Plans for Creating a New Industry Cluster Linked with Bitgreen Industrial Complex and the National Future Vehicle Industrial Complex."
