Minji Kim, Master's student in the Department of Polymer Engineering at Chonnam National University, Polymer Energy Materials and Rheological Process Laboratory.
Chonnam National University announced on the 4th that the team of master's student Kim Minji from the Department of Polymer Engineering and the Polymer Energy Materials and Rheological Process Laboratory (supervised by Professor Lee Doojin) has been finally selected for the advanced course (Chemical Engineering field) of the "2025 Women Graduate Student Engineering Research Team Support Program" organized by the Korea Foundation for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (WISET) under the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The advanced course of the Women Graduate Student Engineering Research Team Support Program is a program in which a female graduate student research leader conducts engineering research together with undergraduate students. The purpose is to support female graduate students in science and engineering to carry out research and development independently, thereby strengthening their research capabilities and leadership.
Kim Minji's research team has been selected to study "Development of Silicon-Based Porous Carbon-Coated Anode Materials for Lithium-Ion Batteries to Control Volume Expansion and Enhance Conductivity." With this selection, the team will receive a total research grant of 8 million KRW over seven months and will carry out the project until October.
This research aims to improve the capacity retention and lifespan characteristics of batteries by applying carbon coating to the surface of silicon anode materials to suppress volume expansion and compensate for low conductivity. It is expected to contribute to the development of next-generation high-performance lithium-ion batteries.
