The blooming of cherry blossoms in Seoul is based on the designated standard observation tree (king cherry tree) within the Seoul Meteorological Observatory, with observations dating back to 1922.
Since 2000, the Korea Meteorological Administration has designated Yeouido Yunjungno in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, as a cherry blossom cluster site, using cherry trees numbered 118 to 120 for tree management as the basis for determining cherry blossom blooming.
The criterion for cherry blossom blooming is when three or more flowers have fully bloomed on any one of the standard trees.
The Korea Meteorological Administration provides blooming status of major cherry blossom and azalea clusters nationwide through the Weather Nuri service.
