Additional Wildfire Damage Confirmed at National Heritage Sites Including Andong Jichonjecheong

Thirty-Five Cases of National Heritage Damage Now Confirmed

On the 4th, the Cultural Heritage Administration announced that there were thirty-five cases of national heritage damaged by the wildfires that simultaneously occurred nationwide last month. This is two more cases than the count on the 1st, three days ago.

The newly confirmed damage cases include Jichon Jecheong in Andong and Mukgye Seowon and Bobaekdang Jongtaek in Andong. The former, which enshrines the memorial rites of Jichon Kim Bang-geol, a Confucian scholar of the late Joseon Dynasty, had two auxiliary buildings completely burned down. The latter had parts of the building and pine trees burned.


The Cultural Heritage Administration stated, "We are continuously monitoring the status of national heritage damage related to the wildfires" and "We are closely watching for any re-ignition or other developments."
