Dong-A University (President Lee Haewoo) announced on the 4th that a team consisting of graduate and undergraduate students majoring in Future Energy Engineering at the Department of Environmental and Energy Engineering has been selected for the advanced course of the "Support Program for Female Graduate Student Engineering Research Teams" organized by the Korea Foundation for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology under the Ministry of Science and ICT.

The research team, consisting of master's student Kang Minkyoung and undergraduate students Kim Dohui, Park Seungwon, and Seo Bomi (supervising professor Hyun Changwook), will receive 8 million KRW in research funding and conduct a seven-month research project until October on the topic "Tracking the Movement of Floating Marine Debris Using Low-Cost IoT Devices to Identify the Origin of Coastal Waste in Jeju."

The Dong-A University research team is expected to contribute to the development of convergence technologies in energy, environment, and information and communication by conducting research that combines cutting-edge IoT, marine exploration, and geographic information system technologies.

Kang Minkyoung, the master's student, said, "I am grateful to the professors who have provided so much support, and I will do my best to help solve marine environmental problems by applying my specialized knowledge through this research. I also hope to share my experiences to support other female students in science and engineering."

Supervising professor Hyun Changwook stated, "I will strive to provide various educational and research opportunities in convergence technologies for energy, environment, and information and communication, which will become even more important in the future, so that students can enhance their capabilities and achieve excellent research outcomes."
