[Yoon Suk-yeol Dismissal] Gwangju Mayor Kang Gi-jung: "Citizens Protected Democracy" Gwangju Mayor Kang Kijeong is delivering a "Letter of Thanks to the Citizens of Gwangju" on the 4th at the May 18 Democratic Square regarding the Constitutional Court's dismissal of President Yoon Seokyeol. "Great citizens have achieved this. The democracy of the Republic of Korea has been protected."

On the 4th, right after the Constitutional Court announced the dismissal of President Yoon Sukyeol, Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijung delivered a "Message of Thanks to the Citizens of Gwangju" at the May 18 Democracy Square, saying, "We have blocked the most unconstitutional insurrectionist forces in the most democratic way."

Mayor Kang expressed his gratitude, saying, "You stopped armored vehicles with your bare hands, turned the winter square into a festival of democracy, and protected Democracy Square and Geumnam-ro from the far-right. I am truly thankful and proud."

He pointed out, "The three years of the Yoon Sukyeol administration have left deep scars on the Republic of Korea. Politics have disappeared, leaving only political retaliation. Our manufacturing competitiveness has weakened, and the export industry is struggling due to the Trump-era tariff bomb. The prolonged medical crisis, lasting over a year, has caused chaos in both the medical and educational fields."

He continued, "To heal these wounds, we must establish a competent 'democratic government' and revive the people's economy, which has collapsed due to insurrection. In particular, by including the May 18 spirit in the preamble of the Constitution, we must nurture more democrats and build a stronger democracy."

Mayor Kang stressed, "To achieve this, we must strictly punish the forces of insurrection and move toward social integration. We must never again allow insurrectionist forces, in the name of democracy, to threaten our constitutional order."

Meanwhile, Mayor Kang appealed, "We must cross the mountain range of 'a stronger democracy.' Let us join hands and move forward beyond dismissal toward the establishment of a 'democratic government' and 'great social reform.'"
