The Starting Point of Normalization Lies in Education That Protects Democracy

Gwangju Superintendent of Education Lee Jungseon stated on the 4th regarding the impeachment decision of President Yoon Sukyeol, "I respect the Constitutional Court's decision, which has further solidified democracy in the Republic of Korea, and now is the time to find hope again through education."

On this day, Superintendent Lee wrote on his Facebook, "Today's decision by the Constitutional Court will be recorded in history as a victory for democracy," and added, "It was a moment when we once again confirmed that our democracy does not falter even in the face of any crisis."


Superintendent Lee continued, "Since December 3rd, we have spent anxious and conflicted times with heavy hearts, but now we must join hands and move forward for the recovery of daily life and normalization of the Republic of Korea," emphasizing, "We must mend our divided hearts, embrace each other, and move forward again."


Superintendent Lee highlighted the role of education as the foundation of democracy. He stated, "Gwangju education will take the lead in democratic citizenship education so that it will not be shaken by any threats," and pledged, "We will do our utmost to ensure that Gwangju students uphold the values of the Constitution and democracy and grow into global democratic citizens who embody the spirit of May 18." He added, "For a new beginning and the normalization of the Republic of Korea, Gwangju education will do its best," and concluded, "We will find hope again through education."
