[Yoon Seok-yeol Impeachment] Cheon Ha-ram "The President Is Not a King... Violence Cannot Change Democracy"

On the 4th, as the Constitutional Court dismissed former President Yoon Seok-yeol, the Reform New Party stated, "The president is not a king."

Cheon Ha-ram, acting party leader and floor leader of the Reform New Party, said immediately after the ruling on the impeachment trial of former President Yoon on the 4th, "The Constitutional Court has clearly stated today, while protecting our democracy, this obvious fact."

Floor leader Cheon asserted, "We do not know how anxious we were until we heard from the constitutional justices the obvious truth that the president must unify even those citizens who do not support him and persuade and cooperate with opposition party members who do not agree with his will."

He added, "Also, if there is something the Constitutional Court made clear today, it is that under no circumstances should the military or police be mobilized to overthrow the democratic system through violence," explaining, "Violence is unacceptable, and under no circumstances should political intentions be enforced through violent means."

Floor leader Cheon said, "If you meet citizens who have different opinions from yours, you should not exclude or use violence against them but persuade them," emphasizing, "Diligently persuading other citizens and striving to establish the system you desire in the next election may be the only peaceful and sustainable way to build the Republic of Korea as a community."

Floor leader Cheon urged, "Taking today's Constitutional Court decision as an opportunity, I ask not only our politicians but all citizens to deeply reflect on the obvious fact that the president is not a king and cannot forcibly change our democratic system through violent means."
