Statement from Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province
Finally, the people have won.
The 'Revolution of Light' has triumphed.
On December 3rd, the power that sought to destroy the Republic of Korea collapsed before the judgment of the people.
Each and every citizen is the true owner of this country.
We also thank the National Assembly and the Constitutional Court for clearly establishing the principles and common sense of the democratic republic.
Although the ringleader of the insurrection has been dismissed, the road ahead is long.
The path we must take is not a return to the state before December 3rd of last year.
Now, we must truly start anew.
To ensure that such reckless acts that destroy the democratic republic never happen again,
we must properly establish the country's norms and systems.
The accomplices of the insurrection and the instigators of violence must be held accountable.
It is the duty of all politicians who seek to protect the democratic republic.
In the face of an economic and livelihood crisis where the future is uncertain even a moment ahead,
everyone must unite their strength and wisdom.
Consumption is decreasing, investment is drying up, and jobs are disappearing.
The people are pushed to the brink of self-reliance,
and now the tariff storm triggered by Trump has also arrived.
It is time to end the division and hostility in the public square,
gather national energy, and achieve an economic transformation.
After the 'Revolution of Light,' the Republic of Korea must be completely changed.
We must open a new Republic of Korea where the dignity and rights of each and every citizen are respected and realized.
I will also do my utmost with urgency and humility.
