Suncheon to Open Dongcheon Riverside Park Early

Completion of the Ecological Corridor
Connecting Suncheonman National Garden and the Original Downtown

Suncheon City, South Jeolla Province (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu), announced on the 4th that it has completed the creation of a premium ecological corridor connecting Suncheonman Bay, the National Garden, and the original downtown area.

This achievement was made possible by the city providing imaginative ideas to the Pungdeok District Urban Development Association. Through ongoing consultations, the association covered 3.6 billion KRW in construction costs to create the Dongcheon Riverside Park.

Initially, the Pungdeok Association planned to donate the riverside park to Suncheon City upon completion of the urban development project in 2028. However, at the city's request, the park's construction was advanced by three years and opened this April to coincide with the cherry blossom season.

Crossing the suspension bridge from Ocheon Green Square, visitors can find a vast 770-meter green space reminiscent of another Green Island. Here, visitors can enjoy the beautiful riverside scenery of Dongcheon, as well as newly created lawn areas and an Ipopnamu (Chionanthus retusus) trail connected to the existing embankment cherry blossom path. Citizens are expected to relax comfortably on picnic mats spread out on the spacious lawn and enjoy the familiar scenery of Dongcheon from a new perspective.

A city official stated, "Dongcheon Riverside Park, created through the collective wisdom of Suncheon City and the Pungdeok Association, will become a precious space where citizens can enjoy leisure in their daily lives and connect with nature."
