Coupang to Hire 1,450 New Employees in Gimhae... Over 3,300 Hired in Total

Opening of AI Technology-Based Smart Logistics Center

Coupang announced on the 4th that it will create approximately 1,450 new jobs at its Smart Logistics Center in Gimhae, Gyeongnam.

Coupang Logistics Service (CLS) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Gimhae City and the Yangsan branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor at Gimhae City Hall the day before to support job creation and recruitment. 40% of the newly hired personnel will be from the 2030 youth demographic. Through this, they plan to expand employment opportunities for young people in the Gimhae area and help prevent population outflow to the metropolitan area. Currently, the 2030 youth demographic accounts for about 11.5% of Gimhae City's total population of approximately 530,000.

Earlier, in February, CLS signed an investment agreement worth 193 billion KRW with Gyeongnam Province and Gimhae City and announced plans to build a smart logistics center based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the Andong area of Gimhae City. The AI technology-based smart logistics center will begin phased operations from mid-this month. The company explained that once fully operational, dawn and same-day delivery services within Gyeongnam Province will be expanded.

Coupang opened its first logistics center in Gimhae in 2019 and has employed about 1,900 people so far. Including this additional recruitment, Coupang’s employment in the Gimhae area will increase to over 3,300. This is the largest job creation record by a single company in Gimhae City.
