Spring Wildfire Caution Period Extended Until Next Month
Seo-gu District of Gwangju City (District Mayor Kim Ikang) announced on the 4th that it conducted a campaign for spring wildfire prevention in commemoration of 'Safety Inspection Day'.
This measure aims to raise awareness of wildfires and strengthen practical prevention activities as the wildfire crisis alert level has recently been raised to 'severe' and more residents are visiting nature in the spring.
On the 4th, Seogu held a campaign to prevent spring wildfires in observance of 'Safety Inspection Day'.
The campaign was carried out mainly in safety-vulnerable areas and urban park trails across the 18 neighborhoods of Seo-gu, with participation from about 100 people including the Safety Monitoring Volunteer Corps, safety officers, and public officials.
On-site activities included promoting wildfire prevention rules, inspecting fire hazards, distributing self-inspection checklists, and providing information on how to report dangerous factors, focusing on practical, everyday prevention.
Prior to this, on the 3rd, Seo-gu conducted an on-site inspection with the wildfire prevention and suppression team in the area around Haksansa in Seochang-dong and simultaneously promoted the ban on burning agricultural by-products as a proactive response.
Seo-gu has designated the period until next month as the wildfire caution period and is operating a step-by-step response system, which includes ▲patrolling wildfire-prone areas ▲deploying monitors ▲installing promotional materials ▲guidance and crackdown on illegal burning ▲emergency duty for public officials.
Vice District Mayor Baek Namin said, "Wildfires begin with carelessness but can turn into disasters threatening the entire community. We hope all residents will remain vigilant and participate in prevention efforts."
