Urban Forest Trail to Connect to Outlet Starting Next Year
Street Forest Path in Gunhari, Wolgot-myeon to Be Created This Year
Mayor Kim Byung-su: "Uncovering Gimpo's Potential Is the Shortcut to Enhancing Competitiveness"
Gimpo City in Gyeonggi Province is undertaking the creation of a 186 km waterfront trail, with comprehensive maintenance of the Daebocheon waterway path in Gochon-eup planned for this year. Additionally, from 2026 to 2027, there is a plan to develop a 3 km urban forest trail connecting Daebocheon to Gimpo Hyundai Outlet, and the city is determined to actively secure national and provincial funding for this project.
By refurbishing the existing Daebocheon to increase its usability and connecting it to the Gimpo Ara Waterway (Gulpocheon), a vast green corridor will be formed, expected to serve as a natural passage linking various parts of the city.
Mayor Kim Byung-su stated, “Discovering the potential of everything Gimpo has is the shortcut to enhancing Gimpo’s competitiveness,” emphasizing his dedication to raising the Gimpo brand value by utilizing the city’s resources. The maintenance of Daebocheon is part of this effort and is directly related to improving the quality of life in citizens’ daily lives.
Furthermore, this year Gimpo City will also create a street forest path in Gunhari, Wolgot-myeon. Beyond the waterfront trails, the city aims to improve citizens’ quality of life by developing accessible living area forests using idle land such as parks, green spaces, and roadside areas.
Under the 8th elected administration, Gimpo City aims to establish an urban forest area per capita above the national average, building public infrastructure to protect citizens’ health in the era of climate crisis. Efforts are being accelerated in creating pocket parks, street forest paths, school forests, and securing riverside green spaces.
Mayor Kim Byung-su said, “Well-developed and managed urban forests enhance the city’s aesthetic value and can also be utilized as tourist resources,” adding, “We are considering making urban forests another scenic resource of Gimpo City by raising the city’s brand value, providing diverse colors and landscapes, and breathing life into the monotonous gray scenery.”
