Suspected Arson Fire at Mokpo Lodging; Guest in His 40s Seriously Injured

A fire, suspected to be arson, broke out at a lodging facility in Mokpo, Jeonnam, resulting in a guest in their 40s sustaining serious injuries and being transported to the hospital. Police and fire authorities are currently investigating the cause and exact circumstances of the fire.


According to the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters on the 4th, the fire occurred at around 3:44 p.m. the previous day in a third-floor room of a lodging facility in Namgyo-dong, Mokpo. Due to the fire, a guest in their 40s, identified as A, suffered third-degree burns to the face and both hands and was taken to the hospital for treatment.


The refrigerator and other fixtures inside A's room were completely destroyed, and three other guests staying on the same floor were safely rescued by 119 emergency personnel.


The fire was extinguished in 21 minutes, and the fire department estimated the property damage at approximately 5 million won.


Fire authorities believe that A set fire to the bedding using a portable burner and are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
