Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) designated the 3rd as 'Big Cleaning Day' and thoroughly cleaned the streets around Munjeong-dong together with local residents.

The district planned the event in connection with Seoul City's Clean Day to create a clean urban environment and encourage residents' voluntary cleaning efforts. As a pilot area, a section of about 700 meters from Munjeong-dong Rodeo Street, which has a high foot traffic and frequent complaints about illegal dumping, to Munjeong Station was selected.

On the morning of the Big Cleaning Day, over 100 personnel and cleaning equipment were deployed to the sidewalks, roads, and back alleys of Munjeong-dong. Starting with the slogan "Spring has come!", Mayor Seo Gang-seok, residents, and environmental officers picked up trash and cleaned various parts of the neighborhood themselves. Large water trucks entered the main roads, while small street sweepers accessed narrow roads to thoroughly wash away accumulated dust.

A district official stated, "This Munjeong-dong big cleaning is the first Seoul Clean Day event of 2025," adding, "Neighborhood-wide big cleanings are scheduled to be completed within this month, and active participation from residents during the remaining period is necessary."

In this way, the district plans to conduct neighborhood-wide big cleanings focusing on habitual illegal dumping areas and vulnerable cleaning spots such as parks near schools, by joining forces with residents including functional organizations in each neighborhood, Golmokhorangi elders, and autonomous alley cleaning teams until early April.

Earlier in March, the district operated a special cleaning period for 22 days focusing on major roads and multi-use facilities in the area. A total of 123 local residents, public officials, and environmental officers were deployed, utilizing six water cleaning trucks, eight dust suction vehicles, seven street surface cleaning vehicles, and five small street sweepers to remove calcium chloride and dust accumulated over the winter.

The district plans to designate the fourth Wednesday of every month as 'Clean Day' to encourage residents' voluntary cleaning and continuously carry out water cleaning of roads and street facilities.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, "As the season for spring outings arrives, all 27 neighborhoods are conducting big cleanings to create a clean environment," and added, "We hope many will participate to shake off the accumulated dust and welcome a lively new spring with neighbors."
