Trump: "Musk Will Work in US Administration for a Few More Months"

U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 3rd (local time) that Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), would "stay for a few months" in the administration.

According to Reuters and other sources, President Trump told reporters on board a plane heading to Miami that "Musk can stay as long as he wants."

President Trump said, "He will stay for a certain period, and then return to his main job," adding, "He is doing a fantastic job."

The previous day, foreign media including the political news outlet Politico reported that President Trump told close aides that Musk would step down within a few weeks. Musk is working in the Trump administration as a "special government official," exempt from ethics and conflict of interest regulations since he is not a formal government employee, allowing him to work up to 130 days a year. This period expires between late May and early June.

In an interview with Fox News on the 27th of last month, when asked if he was ready to leave after his special government official status expired, Musk said, "I plan to complete $1 trillion in federal government cost savings by the end of May."
