Busan Gijang County Encourages Use of 'Early Warning Service for Agricultural Weather Disasters'

Gijang County in Busan (County Governor Jung Jongbok) announced on the 3rd that it is encouraging the active use of the Rural Development Administration's "Early Warning Service for Agricultural Weather Disasters" to prevent crop damage caused by adverse weather conditions.

The "Early Warning Service for Agricultural Weather Disasters" is a service that provides various weather information and weather disaster prediction data necessary for agriculture at the farm level, delivering disaster response guidelines and relevant information to individual farms via the internet and mobile devices.

This service, implemented by the Rural Development Administration, is designed to offer timely notifications of crop-specific weather risks tailored to each farm's cultivation environment, along with avoidance and mitigation measures, thereby providing weather risk management technologies at the individual farm level.

Currently, the service provides weather information such as temperature, precipitation, and humidity, taking into account the local terrain, as well as disaster prediction data for up to nine days, including heat waves, cold spells, droughts, and waterlogging. Anyone in the county can access the service by searching for "Early Warning Service for Agricultural Weather Disasters" on an internet portal, allowing them to check virtual information and disaster prediction data for individual farms by parcel without separate registration.

However, the mobile notification service is currently available only in 110 cities and counties nationwide, and will be expanded to 155 cities and counties, including Gijang County, by the end of 2025.

Kim Hyeongu, Director of the Gijang County Agricultural Technology Center, said, "I hope that all local farmers will actively utilize the Early Warning Service for Agricultural Weather Disasters to protect the crops they have cultivated with care from natural disasters and pests."
