Busan Port Authority Continues Sharing Initiatives with Local Communities Near the Port

Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced on the 3rd that it plans to continue its 'Port Area Visiting Social Contribution Project' this year, aimed at resolving welfare blind spots in communities near the port and fostering coexistence with local residents.

The 'Port Area Visiting Social Contribution Project' is a program that BPA has been operating since 2021, in partnership with four local governments and welfare institutions?Jung-gu, Dong-gu, Yeongdo-gu, and Nam-gu in Busan. Each year, BPA allocates a budget of 60 million KRW to support customized welfare projects tailored to each region.

This year as well, BPA plans to support approximately 180 households through collaboration with the four local governments.

In Jung-gu, the 'Happiness Mailbox Sharing Hope' project provides medical expenses and daily necessities to vulnerable groups. In Dong-gu, the 'Dream Realization Study Room Creation' project is implemented to improve learning environments for children from low-income families.

In particular, with the increasing number of single-person households in Busan and the resulting issue of solitary deaths, Yeongdo-gu and Nam-gu are offering meal support and check-in services for middle-aged single-person households, thereby contributing to strengthening the local welfare safety net.

Through this project, a total of 225 million KRW in support funds has been provided over the four years from 2021 to 2024, benefiting more than 530 households. The significance of the project lies especially in its collaboration with local governments and welfare institutions to identify households in crisis that fall through the welfare cracks and provide them with customized welfare services.

Song Sangkeun, President of BPA, stated, "We are striving to create real change through social contribution activities for the coexistence with the local community," and added, "We will continue to practice sustainable sharing based on close cooperation with the local community."
