Controversy Over 'Left-Leaning' in Impeachment Rally Prepayment... "I Think There Should Be Sanctions If It Goes Too Far" Singer and actress IU. Idam Entertainment

Singer and actress IU (Lee Ji-eun, 33) recently shared her feelings about being mocked as 'Jwauiyu' for prepaying drinks and other items for fans attending a rally calling for the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol. 'Jwauiyu' is a derogatory term combining 'left-wing' and 'IU' to criticize her political stance.

On the 2nd, IU spoke about rumors and misunderstandings she has faced during her entertainment career in an interview marking the conclusion of the Netflix series 'Poksak Soksassuda' held at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul.

IU said, "It would be a lie to say I have never felt wronged in my life, but on the other hand, I think the positive views people have of me outweigh that, considering my personality. I never expected to be loved for such a long time while doing this work. Although there are times when people say, 'That's really a misunderstanding,' I believe more people see me as lovable and good than otherwise."

She continued, "I have never personally watched the mocking videos, but it is not wrong to say that it upsets me. However, I think that is something I have to endure. That said, when expressions cross the line or when the company feels that 'this cannot just be overlooked' because it causes significant misunderstandings, we believe sanctions are necessary," she added.

IU's agency, Edam Entertainment, was criticized last December by some supporters of President Yoon for prepaying 200 loaves of bread, 200 drinks, and 200 bowls of gukbap (soup with rice) for fans attending a rally in Yeouido, Seoul, calling for the president's impeachment, which led to the derogatory label 'Jwauiyu' (left-wing + IU).
