Foreign YouTubers Influenced by Somali Recently Enter the Country
Causing Various Problems While Roaming Around Seoul, Busan, and Other Cities
Recently, there has been an increase in foreign YouTubers causing disturbances or acting violently on the streets in South Korea, prompting calls for a tough response. On the 3rd, Professor Seo Kyung-deok of Sungshin Women's University stated on his social media (SNS), "Recently, a video of a foreign YouTuber assaulting pedestrians on the streets of South Korea during a live broadcast surfaced on online communities, causing public outrage."
In fact, a recent incident involved a foreign YouTuber suddenly approaching a pedestrian trying to get into a car, punching him in the face without warning, and hurling insults, sparking controversy. Notably, he streamed this scene live on the Australian internet broadcasting platform 'Kick.' This YouTuber is 'Black Dave,' a rapper and skateboarder from New York. Around the same time, another YouTuber named 'Ice Poseidon,' who entered the country, has been roaming freely around Seoul, Busan, and Jeju Island, causing various problems.
Previously, several other foreign YouTubers mocked Korea by saying things like "Kimchi is disgusting" or made unthinkable derogatory remarks such as "Japan gave Koreans good genes through comfort women." Particularly, Johnny Somali, considered a pioneer among these overseas YouTubers, was recently brought to trial for disturbing business by playing loud music and spilling cup noodle broth on a table at a convenience store in Mapo-gu, Seoul, last October. Among them, Black Dave, who has been friends with Johnny Somali, claimed after meeting him in Korea that Somali was hated in Korea because he is Black.
Regarding this, Professor Seo said, "This situation can be largely attributed to the influence of Johnny Somali, who shamelessly engaged in various outrageous acts such as kissing the 'Statue of Peace' in Korea." He emphasized, "A strong punishment should be imposed on Johnny Somali, who is currently on trial, to set a good precedent," and added, "It is appropriate to forcibly deport these nuisance YouTubers." Furthermore, he stated, "From now on, we must prevent foreign YouTubers who mock the country and threaten pedestrians from causing trouble domestically."
