Development of Air Force Base Site as a Key Hub in Geumcheon-gu Accelerates Through Civil-Government-Military Cooperation
Discussion on Strategies and Cooperation Measures for Smooth Project Progress
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that on April 2, it held a "Policy Meeting for the Revitalization of the Spatial Innovation Zone (Geumcheon-gu Air Force Base Site)" at the 6th Conference Room of the National Assembly Members' Office Building.
The meeting was organized to facilitate the smooth progress of the project and to concretize future development plans for the Doksan-dong Air Force Base site, which was selected as a pilot project site for the Spatial Innovation Zone by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Attendees included Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, National Assembly member Choi Ki-sang, city and district council members of Geumcheon-gu, and heads of practical departments from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of National Defense, and Seoul City.
Mayor Yu Seong-hoon presented the development plan for the Air Force Base applying the urban innovation zone and requested government-level support for the swift progress of the project. In his presentation, Mayor Yu emphasized, "Simplification of the review process and institutional improvements are necessary," adding, "To strengthen the industrial competitiveness of G-Valley, attracting companies and creating new business clusters are essential, and deregulation of non-residential facilities and the introduction of complex facilities such as silver towns are needed."
Following this, officials from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of National Defense, Seoul City, and Geumcheon-gu discussed cooperation plans among their respective institutions.
Through this meeting, the district proposed a vision to develop the Air Force Base site into a new economic hub with urban convergence and complex functions. The plan is to create a compact city combining advanced business, commercial culture, and urban residential functions, developing a public-private-military win-win model that simultaneously promotes job creation within the region and modernization of military facilities.
Representatives from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of National Defense stated, "We will actively review administrative procedures for the creation of the Spatial Innovation Zone and consultations related to the use of national property to ensure the project proceeds swiftly."
It is expected that policy linkage and institutional support from central government ministries will be strengthened when detailed project plans are established in the future. National Assembly member Choi Ki-sang expressed, "At the National Assembly level, we will continue to support Geumcheon-gu's Spatial Innovation Zone to become a model leading balanced development in the southwestern area of Seoul."
Mayor Yu Seong-hoon of Geumcheon-gu stated, "This pilot project for the Spatial Innovation Zone will be a turning point for the future of Geumcheon-gu," and added, "We will spare no administrative and policy efforts to closely cooperate with related agencies so that Geumcheon-gu can leap forward as a new growth hub in the southwestern region of Seoul."
