On the 2nd, Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, revealed that the National Assembly spent a total of 110 million won on legal representative fees for the impeachment trial of President Yoon Seok-yeol.
On the same day, Floor Leader Kwon disclosed data titled "Expenditure by the National Assembly on Legal Representatives for Impeachment Cases Initiated by the Democratic Party During the Yoon Seok-yeol Administration." According to the data, the National Assembly paid 11 million won each to 10 law firms representing President Yoon in the impeachment case.
For the 2023 impeachment case of Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, a total of 99 million won was paid to 4 law firms, and for last year's impeachment case of Korea Communications Commission Chairperson Lee Jin-sook, a total of 33 million won was spent on 3 law firms.
From 2023 until the end of last month, the total legal representative fees for 13 impeachment cases passed in the plenary sessions of the National Assembly amounted to 460.24 million won cumulatively. In particular, Floor Leader Kwon claimed that among the 34 lawyers who acted as legal representatives for the National Assembly in impeachment cases passed under opposition party leadership, at least 22 have pro-opposition party tendencies.
Floor Leader Kwon stated, "The chain of impeachments by the Democratic Party has paralyzed state affairs, yet only pro-Democratic Party law firms and lawyers are reaping huge profits from this 'impeachment boom.' The Democratic Party and the left-wing legal cartel have colluded to create an 'impeachment creative economy.'"
