The Democratic Party of Korea, Progressive Party, and Justice Party of the South Jeolla Provincial Council (hereinafter referred to as the three parties of the South Jeolla Provincial Council) strongly urged the Constitutional Court to uphold the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol in a joint statement released on the 2nd, ahead of the court's decision scheduled for the 4th.

Three Parties in Jeonnam Provincial Council Strongly Urge President Yoon's Impeachment Approval

In their statement, the three parties of the South Jeolla Provincial Council said, "The Constitutional Court has set April 4, 2025, as the date for the ruling on the impeachment trial of Yoon Suk-yeol, the leader of the rebellion," and insisted, "With a unanimous 8:0 decision, the Constitutional Court must uphold the impeachment bill, remove President Yoon Suk-yeol from office for toppling the democracy won by the blood and sweat of the people overnight, and return that authority to the people."

In particular, the three parties of the South Jeolla Provincial Council strongly criticized, "On December 3 last year, President Yoon Suk-yeol declared martial law in violation of the Constitution and the law, mobilized the military and police to blockade the National Assembly, and destroyed the constitutional order of the Republic of Korea," adding, "He committed a grave crime by betraying the democratic legitimacy and trust entrusted to him by the people."

They continued, "The office of the president is not an absolute power that reigns above the people," and urged, "The Constitutional Court must uphold the impeachment bill and clearly declare before the people the principle of constitutional order that no one in power can stand above the Constitution."

They further emphasized, "Silence in the face of rebellion is tantamount to condoning it," and added, "We hope that the Republic of Korea, divided by the December 3 martial law incident, will now stop conflict and confrontation, and move forward as one community, taking the just decision of the Constitutional Court as a turning point."
