Industry Requests Expansion of Card Payment Scope

Credit card companies, capital companies, and other credit finance industry players met with the ruling party to request the resolution of key industry issues, including the allowance of dedicated payment settlement accounts.

On the 2nd, three members of the People Power Party belonging to the National Assembly's Political Affairs Committee visited the Credit Finance Association in Jung-gu, Seoul, and held an on-site meeting titled "On-Site Meeting to Enhance the Livelihood Economy and Competitiveness of the Credit Finance Industry" with key industry stakeholders.


The meeting was attended by Kim Sang-hoon, the party's policy chief, Kang Min-guk, the ruling party's Political Affairs Committee secretary, and Assemblyman Lee Heon-seung. From the industry side, participants included Jeong Wan-gyu, chairman of the Credit Finance Association, as well as representatives from credit card companies, capital companies, and new technology finance companies.


The industry requested the ruling party to allow dedicated payment settlement accounts for credit card companies, expand the scope of card payments, activate automobile finance platforms for capital companies, and broaden the investment scope of new technology finance companies.


Chairman Jeong Wan-gyu said, "We ask for the National Assembly's attention and support so that the industry can faithfully fulfill its fundamental roles?such as innovating payment settlement services, supplying funds to small and medium-sized enterprises and ordinary citizens, and investing in innovative companies?to contribute to revitalizing the national economy."


Chairman Kim stated, "We will work with the government to improve the environment based on the industry's on-site opinions regarding the supply of funds to ordinary citizens, small business owners, and SMEs, as well as investment in innovative venture companies."


Assemblyman Kang said, "Since the inauguration of the U.S. Trump 2.0 administration, the global situation has been at 'zero hour,' and given South Korea's difficult circumstances, the National Assembly will fulfill its responsibilities. We will listen to voices from the field, review the content, and discuss accordingly."
