Goryeong County (Governor Lee Namcheol) and the Daegaya Museum opened a special exhibition themed "The Land of the Great King" on March 28, commemorating the museum's 20th anniversary.
Since its opening on April 2, 2005, the Daegaya Museum has established itself as the nation's only museum specializing in Daegaya history, hosting annual special exhibitions, academic conferences, and educational programs. This special exhibition aims to showcase the national development and cultural excellence of Daegaya through written records.
In July 2024, the "Daewang (Great King)" pottery excavated from the Goryeong Daegaya Palace Site was unveiled to the public for the first time. Visitors can also see 33 pieces of 31 different written artifacts from Daegaya, Changnyeong Bihwagaya, and the post-Daegaya period all in one place.
The "Daewang" pottery excavated from the Daegaya Palace Site, together with the "Daewang" inscribed long-necked jar with a lid housed at Chungnam National University Museum, serves as material evidence that Daegaya was the land of the great king. "Daewang" means "king of kings" or "great king." In addition, inscribed pottery such as "Habu (Lower Division)," "Ideukji (Ideukji)," and the "Hapcheon Maean-ri Gayabi" stele demonstrate that Daegaya achieved political development on par with the Three Kingdoms as an ancient state.
The Daegaya Museum stated, "We hope this exhibition will serve as an opportunity to redefine our ancient history as the era of the Four Kingdoms, and that the discovery of more written materials will help restore the history of Daegaya, which lacks sufficient documentary records."
