Cleared of Assault and Insult Allegations Against Council Member Seowon

Seowon, a member of the Nonsan City Council in Chungnam, has been cleared of charges after being accused of assault and insult by a senior official of the Nonsan City Hall.

The Nonsan Police Station announced on the 2nd that it had decided not to refer the case to the prosecution, finding Seowon not guilty after the head of department A at Nonsan City Hall filed a complaint against him for assault and insult.

Head of department A submitted a complaint to the police in January this year, claiming that Seowon, who was then the chairperson of the Nonsan City Council in January last year, assaulted and insulted him in the chairperson's office.

Head of department A alleged that when Seowon answered "I don't know" regarding the dismissal of the director and auditor of the Nonsan City Social Welfare Council, Seowon pointed a finger at him and struck a glass cup on the table, causing fear and committing assault.

He also emphasized that, in front of the chairperson's secretarial staff, Seowon told him, "You are an incompetent person. You can't even do your job properly, so don't just occupy the position as head of department, quit your public office and leave today," which made him feel deeply insulted.

However, it is known that the police, after conducting an intensive investigation including a face-to-face interrogation between Seowon and head of department A, concluded that Seowon was "not guilty."

In a phone call with Asia Economy, Seowon said, "Head of department A maliciously filed the complaint to damage my reputation," and added, "After legal review, I plan to file a complaint against head of department A for defamation and false accusation."

He continued, "Additional evidence has been secured that raises suspicion of head of department A's involvement in the dismissal of the director and auditor of the Nonsan City Social Welfare Council," and stated, "After legal review, I plan to file a complaint against head of department A for abuse of authority and obstruction of business."
